It is a lazy Sunday morning, the best kind. I am cozy next to the heater, wearing my pajamas and house shoes. Colby and one of my roommates have gone to a Quaker meeting down the road. I went last week and enjoyed it, but wanted some time to read and write.
I was away from home all day yesterday, so I wanted some time to spend there today. Yesterday was a great day. Colby and I decided to have a daylong date to celebrate our anniversary. The day began with French toast and coffee. Next I packed up our picnic lunch and we headed to the Alaska history museum on campus. The museum was full of stuffed wildlife, mammoth and whalebones, clothing and artifacts from native people and history of the gold rush, war and oil in Alaska. It was a really nice and complete museum. Next, we took out our picnic lunch and ate it on the lawn of the museum. We had a great view of the Alaska Mountains in the distance. Lunch consisted of a homemade baguette, humus, cheese, olives, wine and chocolate. From there we headed over to a woman’s home that Colby recently met at a Quaker meeting. She has a beautiful, secluded property where we enjoyed tea and a nature walk. She is a retired biologist so together we observed the native trees and plants on her property. Terri is a wise and joyful woman. I look forward to spending more time with her in the months to come. After we left Terri, we headed back to campus for a round of disc golf in which I won. Then it was time to drop Sam at home and head to dinner. We ate Thai food, drank wine and had good conversation. After dinner we could either go to a play or a dance. We chose the dance. It is called Contra dancing which is the English version of square dancing. Les, a man we had met last week at the Quaker meeting, was the caller. First you pick a partner and then you both stand in line and follow the instructions of the caller. There were times when I ran around like a chicken with her head cut off, but for the most part it wasn’t too hard to follow. One of my roommates and a couple folks from the farm were there. We all had a great time dancing and socializing. By eleven we were physically tired and ready to head back to the house.
Today is absolutely beautiful. I plan to go on a run, stretch and bike to campus for a round of disc golf. We all want to take advantage of the warmth and the sun. So outside I go!
